This was an easy crochet pattern to follow that used a combination of single and double crochet. You can purchase a copy from Speckled Frog Crochet. Her pattern is only $4.99 USD and includes sizes preemie thru toddler.
The stitch pattern is just beautiful and it was very quick to crochet.

I attached the ears at the bottom of the first row on each side and opted to not add earflaps.
